Spartan stores recall contaminated food

Spartan Stores announced a voluntary recall of eight deli products that could be contaminated with a bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes.

The deli products being recalled have a sell by date of Jan. 20 through Feb. 1 and contain hard-cooked eggs produced by Michael Foods . In West Michigan, the products were sold at D&W and Family Fare.

The following recalled products are:
Egg spread Sandwich with egg spread Prepackaged container salad- small chef Prepackaged container salad- large chef Prepackaged container salad - seven layer Prepackaged container salad - no meat small chef Prepackaged container salad - no meat large chef Prepackaged container salad - no meat seven layer
Spartan Stores said they have received no confirmation of illness associated with the consumption of these products, but anyone concerned about an illness should contact their healthcare provider.

All of the products involved in the recall can be returned for a full refund or replacement. If you have a questions about the recall, contact Spartan Stores' Consumer Affairs at 1-800-451-8500 or contact Michael Foods Customer Service at 877-367-3447.

The recall is connected to the recall announced on Friday by Michael Foods located in Minnetonka, Minn.

18th Street Deli Inc., a Hamtramck, Mich., establishment, is also recalling approximately 118 pounds of julienne salad products with turkey, ham and hard-boiled eggs. The salads contain eggs that are the subject of an FDA recall due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes announced on Friday.

The products of that recall include: 9.25-ounce packages of "18th Street Deli Julienne Salad," "18th Street Deli Julienne Salad Lite," and "Balanced Choice Julienne Salad Lite" with expiration dates of Jan. 27 and Jan. 30.
