Mix Developing Late Thursday and Changing Over to Snow

Winter Storm Watch Thursday Night and Friday Morning

Our mild late-February weather is about to end. Clouds have thickened up, and a light mix of rain and snow will move through tonight. Accumulations of snow tonight should be minor.

Our next chance for precipitation arrives Thursday afternoon. It will likely arrive as a sloppy mix in the afternoon. Areas near I-94 should remain mostly rain or liquid. As the air cools, the mix will change over to snow and several inches of snow is likely from Thursday night through midday Friday.
As much as half a foot of snow is possible in this time frame. Higher totals will be found from Grand Rapids, northward.

Sharply colder air will settle into the region for Friday and Saturday behind the departing low pressure system, creating lake effect snow showers to continue during that time frame. It will feel more like winter around here those two days.
